How to change your car wiper blades

Taken from the AA Garage Guide

Wiper blades are fairly inexpensive items, but have a big effect on visibility and safety so it is advised that you replace them once a year for optimum performance. Before you start it is always best to consult your manufacturers handbook for any specialist tools or equipment required.

There are two main types of wiper blades. The early ridged type wiper blade and the modern flexible type wiper blade.

How to change a rigid wiper blade

  • Lift the arm into the upright position
  • Locate the locking tabs on the underside of the blade and gently squeeze
  • Slowly push the blade down and off from it’s hook to release
  • Once you have sourced the new wiper blade to refit place the blade back under the hook and gently lock back into position

How to change a flexible wiper blade

  • Lift the arm into the upright position
  • Locate the two locking pins on the underside of the blade and gently squeeze
  • Simply lift the blade from its holder
  • To refit squeeze the locking pins and gently push the blade back into the channel until you hear it lock into place.
